New Zealand Post informs that a national state of emergency was declared in response to Cyclone Gabrielle.

The designated operator of New Zealand, New Zealand Post, asks us to inform other Union member countries and their designated operators that a national state of emergency was declared on 14 February 2023 at 8.43 (local time) in response to Cyclone Gabrielle. Local states of emergency had previously been declared in the following regions and districts of the upper North Island: Northland, Auckland, Tairawhiti, Bay of Plenty, Coromandel, Waikato and Hawke’s Bay.
Owing to the severity of this weather event and the scale of the emergency, the central government has taken over from the local authorities and is now managing the response in accordance with the Civil Defence Act.
The upper North Island is most severely affected, but significant impacts are forecast in the lower North Island and upper/central South Island. Weather warnings/watches are in place in the following areas: Northland, Auckland, Great Barrier Island and other islands in the Hauraki Gulf, Coromandel, Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Mount Taranaki, Wairarapa (including the Tararua district), Wellington, Horowhenua, Kapiti Coast, Turikirae Head to Mataikona, Marlborough, Nelson, areas south of Blenheim (including the Kaikoura Coast, Canterbury Plains and the foothills north of the Rakaia River) and the Chatham Islands.
In order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its customers and staff, New Zealand Post has decided to implement the following measures:
- Suspension of all deliveries in red alert areas;
- Suspension of air network operations;
- Suspension of all line haul services to the Far North, Gisborne and Coromandel areas.
New Zealand Post is currently conducting an assessment and the situation is being monitored closely.
New Zealand Post thanks all Union member countries and their designated operators for their understanding, and will inform them via EmIS once the situation has returned to normal.

L'opérateur désigné de la Nouvelle-Zélande, New Zealand Post, nous demande d’informer les autres Pays-membres de l’Union et leurs opérateurs désignés que l’état d'urgence national a été déclaré le 14 février 2023 à 8 h 43 (heure locale) en réponse au cyclone Gabrielle. Des états d'urgence locaux avaient été déclarés auparavant dans les régions et districts suivants de l'île du Nord supérieure: Northland, Auckland, Tairawhiti, Bay of Plenty, Coromandel, Waikato et Hawke's Bay.
En raison de la gravité de cet événement météorologique et de l'ampleur de l'urgence, le Gouvernement central a pris le relais des autorités locales et gère désormais la réponse conformément à la loi sur la défense civile.
La partie supérieure de l'île du Nord est la plus sévèrement touchée, mais de lourds impacts sont attendus dans la partie inférieure de l'île du Nord et dans la partie supérieure/centrale de l'île du Sud. Des alertes/veilles météorologiques sont en place dans les zones suivantes: Northland, Auckland, Great Barrier Island et autres îles du golfe d'Hauraki, Coromandel, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Mount Taranaki, Wairarapa (y compris le district de Tararua), Wellington, Horowhenua, Kapiti Coast, Turikirae Head to Mataikona, Marlborough, Nelson, les régions situées au sud de Blenheim (y compris la côte de Kaikoura, les plaines de Canterbury et les collines au nord du fleuve Rakaia) et les îles Chatham.
Afin d'assurer la sécurité et le bien-être de ses clients et de son personnel, New Zealand Post a décidé de mettre en œuvre les mesures suivantes:
